Legalization of documents

Full legalization of documents is consular legalization of documents, since the diplomatic and consular representatives of the country in whose territory the foreign document is to be used guarantee the authenticity of the document and the legitimacy of the authority that issued it.
As a rule, the original document is certified. The translation is legalized in the same way as the original document.
The president of the basic court, or a judge designated by him, certifies with his signature and the court’s seal the documents issued by the authorities based in the jurisdiction of that court;
The Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Serbia affixes an additional certification of the signature of the president of the court and the court’s seal on documents issued in the Republic of Serbia;
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, by the signature of the authorized person and the seal of the ministry, confirms the signature and seal of the Ministry of Justice, based on the deposited signature of the person authorized for certification;
Such certified domestic documents are further authenticated by a foreign authority (the diplomatic or consular mission of the country in which the document will be used, accredited in the Republic of Serbia).
Certification with an Apostille stamp (Apostille)
If public documents issued in the Republic of Serbia are to be used in the states that are signatories to the Hague Convention Abolishing the Requirement of Legalization for Foreign Public Documents, their authenticity shall be certified by the president of the court or a judge authorized by the competent basic court, with his signature and the court’s seal.
Certification under the Hague Convention is carried out on the original document itself or on its annex.
In the Republic of Serbia, the basic court with jurisdiction over the seat of the authority that issued the document is competent for certification under the Hague Convention.
